Open School students did us proud at State History Day!  Please say congratulations to the following students for presenting their projects at the University on Saturday when you see them.  Each of them did an excellent job.
  • Emily Falksen
  • Karl Brose
  • Sonja Youngquist
  • Brandon Thompson
  • Jessie Biedler
  • John Knapp
  • Shaeng Yang
  • Kalia Vang
  • Nou Thao
  • Jennifer Lor
  • DJ Sass
  • Ruby Uribe
  • Candice Fuller

In addition to representing Open School at History Day, the following students
and their projects won awards:

Honorable Mention: Karl Brose for his paper on Clarence Darrow

"Minnesota's Laws and Courts" topical prize, sponsored by the Minnesota Supreme Court Historical Society:
John Knapp and Jessie Biedler for their performance on Rudy Perpich and his education legacy.  This award includes a $500 prize.

•2nd in State and going to Nationals,

•Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender (GLBT) History Topical Prize Award, and

•The Creativity Award
Jennifer Lor, Candice Fuller, DJ Sass, and Ruby Uribe for their project on Bayard Rustin.

Susanne Hollingsworth explains the group's achievement this way, "This is an amazing achievement!  As they tell the kids at the awards ceremony, 30,000 kids in Minnesota start this process, about 1,000 make it to State and about 50  represent Minnesota at Nationals.  Also, it is also almost impossible to win three awards for a single project at State History Day."

Congratulations to everyone who participated!
