Open School was honored with a bronze medal on the latest U.S. News and World Report’s America’s Best High Schools List.  The report, based on 2006-07 data, ranked schools based on academic performance and college-readiness.  Open School was the only high school in St. Paul Public Schools to receive the honor. Bronze medal schools honored in the report met these criteria:

•    All students performed better than statistically expected for the average student in the state.

•    The school’s least-advantaged students (minority, low-income, etc.) performed better than average for similar students in the state.

“We believe it is the personal attention in our small learning community that lets our kids achieve at higher rates that district and state averages,” said Todd Bartholomay, Open School principal.  “We’re proud of how hard we have worked and continue to work together – students, teachers and families – to help all of our students flourish at Open School.”

Silver and Gold level schools also met criteria where a critical mass of students had access to college-level courses through Advanced Placement or International classes.

Open School currently offers the following AP courses:
  • AP Biology
  • AP Environmental Science
  • AP English Literature
  • AP Studio Art
In addition, Open School students can attend AP or IB courses at other St. Paul Public high schools.
