Kim's Third/Fourth Grade Class
Welcome to our multiage class or third and fourth graders.  My hope is that all the students in our class feel welcome and make significant gains in their learning this year.  We have been learning social skills through activities and routines of the Responsive Classroom.  We practice CARES:  Cooperation, Assertion, Responsibility, Empathy, and Self Control.   Classroom rules were created based on our collective hopes and dreams for the school year.

We keep busy every day with our schedule.

7:50-8:10    Arrival, Breakfast, Morning Routine

8:10-8:30    Morning Meeting
We greet each other, share, and do a whole group activity.  We end with news and announcements for the day.

8:30-9:00     Skills/Interventions
Students work independently reading, writing, and practicing skills such as handwriting or grammar.  During this time I work with small groups of students on specific skills they need.

9:00-9:15     Break

9:15-9:45     Writer's Workshop
We collect ideas in our Writers’ Notebooks.  We then pull ideas from our notebooks and use the writing process (prewrite, draft, revise, edit, publish) to create comprehensive pieces we are proud of.

9:45-11:15   Readers’ Workshop
In reading students participate in small guided reading groups with Phyllis, Pam, Kristen, Susan, or me.  When not in their groups, students participate in reading centers such as computer, listening, theme, and word work.  Students have access to our large classroom library and we visit the Open School library weekly.

11:22-11:52    Lunch/Recess

12:08-12:55    Science or Phy Ed
Anna teaches Science to the class.  Mark is the PE teacher.

1:00-2:00    Math
Grade 3 with Kim
Grade 4 with Phyllis

Our main resource is Everyday Math.  We learn new ideas and review old ideas every day.  The math lessons go by very fast.  We hope to increase our knowledge and be comfortable with Math.  We hope everybody learns that Math can be fun!

2:00-2:30    End of Day Choices, Wrap up

2:30                Dismissal

I'm looking forward to a great year working together with you; please let me know if I can answer any  questions you have or address any of your concerns.  Email is a great way to reach me, otherwise the best times to reach me by phone are 12:15-12:45 and after 2:45.
